The village is bordered by Alcalá on the coast and by the village of Tamaimo, which belongs to the municipality of Santiago del Teide to the north. Economy The economy of the village is historically linked to the water, which reached the village of Chío by pipeline in 1902, the main source of income of the population is agriculture and the service sector. Chío is a village with unique characteristics, with a high proportion of medium-sized farmers. It is one of the main agricultural areas of the municipality, with plantations of tomatoes, almonds, figs, flowers and bananas; late tomatoes in the middle zone, between 500 and 700 m. above sea level, and banana and early tomato plantations on the coast. From a tourist point of view, tourists can stay in the different rural houses offered by the village, walk along its paths to enjoy the views of the mountains (Teide, Pico Viejo and the Vilaflor mountains) and the sea (where the neighboring islands of La Gomera and La Palma can be seen without difficulty). History and heritage The Church of Chío. One of the most emblematic buildings in the village is the church. The first hermitage in the village was built in the 17th century, but it was demolished because it had become too small for the number of parishioners, although it has undergone modifications to adapt to different eras. In its place, the church of San Juan Bautista de Chío was built in 1960 with money from the neighbors. Inside, there are two images of particular beauty: Our Lady of Peace and Saint John the Baptist. However, other images do not go unnoticed, such as that of the Abbot Saint Anthony, Our Lady of Coromoto, Saint Juanito, Saint Cecilia or some images and paintings related to the different episodes of the Holy Week.
