Subdivided into 4 parishes (Almeirim, Benfica do Ribatejo, Fazendas de Almeirim and Raposa), the municipality is bordered to the north by the municipality of Alpiarça, to the east and northeast by Chamusca, to the south by Coruche and Salvaterra de Magos, to the west by Cartaxo and to the northwest by Santarém.
Currently Almeirim is a city, where sopa da Pedra, typical bread and melon are the kings of gastronomy.
