Rua de Santa Catarina, in Porto, is the street with the largest pedestrian traffic in Portugal. This is followed by Rua Augusta and Rua Garret in Lisbon, according to the data contained in the study "Street Commerce in Lisbon and Porto", carried out by the real estate consultancy CBRE.
According to the report, an average of 4,200 people pass by an hour in the period of higher traffic on Rua de Santa Catarina. Ten years ago, this was also the most popular street in Portugal, although there was an increase in passers-by in the order of 20% over the course of this decade.
Rua de Santa Catarina is the most commercial artery in downtown Porto, much of it being fenced to car traffic and reserved only for pedestrians. It houses clothing stores, shoe stores, via Catarina shopping mall and numerous street vendors, less or more cool.
